About Leyden Academy

The Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing is a knowledge centre with an education and research programme in the field of ageing, vitality and geriatric medicine. It was established in November 2008. The Academy offers vocational courses to master students and professionals, given by leading international academics. With this educational programme it hopes to contribute to its main goal: to advance the quality of life of older people.

A Medical Master programme Vitality and Ageing*, as well as a PhD programme has been set up, together with a Young Excellence Class. Leyden Academy stimulates the students' pioneering in implementing excellent and innovative care to advance the quality of life of older people.

Furthermore, the Academy offers an international research programme on ageing in the Netherlands, France, the United States, Sweden and Japan. This programme is executed in cooperation with various international universities and longevity centers.

Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing is a joint venture of Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and Vereniging AEGON.

The Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing is launched on November 11th 2008. It is the first institute in the Netherlands to train pioneers in implementing excellence to advance the quality of life of older people.
